my sick day(s)
I am feeling so cruddy! yuck
I need to catch up on Netflix instead of just watching instant which we are totally addicted to! psst...every season on SVU in existence is on there. that is an entire week's worth of nothing but Law and Order. no breaks! ahhh!
I finally finished this after reading it like 20 pages at a time. I just don't have the time for "fun" books. I really liked it, a lot more than I thought I would. I can't wait to watch the movie now. I love Amy Adams :)
I went through almost an entire box of honey lemon chamomile yesterday. it's keeping my sore throat from hurting so much.
why yes, I do make my gluten-free chocolate chip cookie dough in a Toll House container because I'm cool like that. I also eat cookie dough which I know is bad but I can't help myself. sue me

I am very sick today so I'm hanging out on the couch watching crap tv that has been backed up on my dvr for weeks. hopefully I'll be cured by tomorrow! I'm drinking a ton of tea today and eating from a big pot of meat sauce and noodles that I made earlier.
my day will be full of this:
don't judge me :)

oh, you didn't know?
You guys, it's kind of not a secret to people who know me personally that I am OBSESSED with hockey. I'm a big time Buffalo Sabres fan forever! I love my boys up there in Western New York! I especially love Ryan Miller who has been getting quite a bit of attention lately. He is the starting goalie for Team USA Olympic hockey team. It was so cool to see him play today in an Olympic game. I was so proud! Anyway, hockey is something that not a lot of people really love. People like it but it's not everyday you meet a real hockey fan. I love talking hockey with people!
okay, so I just outed myself as a giant hockey nerd.

Schiele
today I have to write, a lot, about this man named Egon Schiele and how a Psychoanalytic Approach to art history can be applied to his self-portraits and Expressionism in general. I've been reading a lot of Freud and biographies about Schiele. I feel pretty good about my paper.
I have really liked Schiele for a while now, my area of study is the Weiner Werkstatte and basically Vienna in general at the end of the 19th/beginning of the 20th century. I really really love art history. I think people either love it or hate it.
Schiele seems to be considered a "tortured genius" in almost every biography I have read so far. I might agree. I really like how he comes across in this scary, aggressive, erotic, overtly sexual way. His images are really lovely. His use of line is amazing. You could write an entire paper on just that. They look so frantic as if he couldn't draw fast enough. see for yourself.
Now, I'm going to make myself some tea and start typing.

p.s. I think it's really funny how this image is above one of sea otters holding hands.

the new girl in town
I'm not much for wearing the latest fashions or even spending $ on clothes at all. I think the most I've ever spent was $80 on a coat from GAP when I was in high school. I like looking at fashion magazines though and looking cute. I went to B&N the other night with Doug (my bf) and they had Paris Vogue. it was $16! I have a thing for French language magazines and magazines that are hard to find. I have a rule that if I ever find certain ones that I have to buy them no matter what. I don't do this all the time...I didn't do it this time.
I came across a spread in this illusive Vogue that I really liked about a girl named Tavi Gevinson and I was blown away by her style and her age. she is really quite charming. just take a look.

blue people
Am I the only person in the world that has absolutely no desire to see Avatar? It looks so stupid! If it wins an Oscar I might just cry and give up on humanity. You could argue that I haven't seen it so how could I say whether it is Oscar-worthy or not? I have seen quite a few of the movies that are expected to be nominated and I can almost promise you that they are probably better (on so many levels). My favorite movie so far, Up in the Air. Loved it! The Hurt Locker was really great too!

auf Wiedersehen
my lord, I love Project Runway. I have seen every season and I always pick my favorite during the first episode. Some of my favorites have been, Leanne Marshall, Christian Siriano, Carol Hannah Whitfield, and my ultimate favorite, Alison Kelly (she posts here quite a bit and here is her etsy). I always choose a favorite by their personal style and if I would wear (mostly) everything they make on the show. My favorite episode is always the one right before the Fashion Week show where Tim Gunn (love him!) goes to the designer's house and meets their family and gets to see the collection in progress. Leanne's Bryant Park show was one of my favorite show moments ever! anyway, I have a favorite for this season, Anna Lynett. she is so adorable!

I am working on some cute new knitting patterns today. I have to find the pattern for the pomegranate. silly me, I wrote it on an index card. it could be anywhere!
also, I have a new list of blogs that I will be changing regularly. it's over there <-
I have been having a lot of luck finding cute new bogs and I like to share.
I also changed things up a bit :)

I really like this band, The Love Language. I saw them in the summer open for Cursive right around the corner from me. They were so energetic and dance-y. I loved watching the tambourine girl move to the music. She never stopped moving and stomping. She had what appeared to be her sister on stage and they both had impeccable outfits. They looked like they had mad fun while playing their music. They just looked so happy to be there. I really like that about certain bands. Anyway, they are from Chapel Hill so we had a little chat about North Carolina after the show. I lived there for a long time. I can tell you that Chapel Hill is a great place...my bf and I have added North Carolina to the places we want to move when we make the "big move". After all, my lovely bff, Katelyn Love lives there and we would finally be reunited.
so, check out The Love Language, they are good stuff.
I believe you can stream their entire album here
